The June E. Nylen Cancer Center has a caring and capable medical
staff, dedicated to providing personal care to their patients. Below
are the biographies outlining their extensive educations, past experiences,
as well as memberships in a variety of cancer-related organizations.
The physicians of Siouxland Hematology-Oncology Associates have been providing expert medical oncology care and chemotherapy to the Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota region since 1980. Located at the June E. Nylen Cancer Center, Siouxland Hematology-Oncology Associates also brings state-of-the-art cancer treatment to 17 satellite clinics located throughout the region. Locations include: Cherokee, Estherville, Hawarden, Ida Grove, Onawa, LeMars, Mapleton, Orange City, Pocahontas, Primghar, Sac City, Sheldon, Sioux Center, Spencer, Spirit Lake, and Storm Lake, Iowa as well as Pender and Wayne, Nebraska.

John C. Michalak, MD
Dr. Michalak serves as June E. Nylen Cancer Center's Medical Director. He has been chairman of cancer care at Mercy Medical Center -- Sioux City and St. Lukes Health System and served many years as principal investigator in the North Central Cancer Treatment Group. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Michalak received his medical degree from the University of California at Irvine. He completed his internship, residency and fellowship at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center. He is board-certified in hematology and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. |

Donald B. Wender, Ph.D., MD
Dr. Wender received his medical degree from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Case Western Reserve University. He completed his internship, residency and fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Health Center. He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Iowa Oncology Society and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is board-certified in medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and currently serves as principal investigator in the North Central Cancer Treatment Group, a national clinical research group sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. |

Radha M. Rao, MD
Dr. Rao earned her medical degree from the Kurnool
Medical School and completed her internship at Kurnool General Hospital, both in Kurnool, India. She completed a residency at the State University of New York and a fellowship at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Rao is a member of the North Central Cancer Treatment Group, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Iowa Oncology Society. She is board-certified in medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Stephen P. Kahanic, MD
Dr. Kahanic received his medical degree from Case
Western Reserve University and completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Iowa. He is a member of the Iowa Oncology Society and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is currently involved in Hospice of Siouxland and the Woodbury County Medical Society. Dr. Kahanic was an associate faculty member in Oncology and Hematology at the University of Iowa School of Medicine. He is board-certified in medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. |

Gerald D. Hagin, MD, FACP
Dr. Hagin received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he graduated with honors in Medicine and Psychiatry. He completed an internship and an Internal Medicine Residency at Kaiser Medical Center and a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of Arizona Health Science Center. Dr. Hagin is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Dr. Hagin is a member of the American Academy of Hospice Physicians, American Society of Clinical Oncology and a former member in the United States Naval Reserves. |

Greg Naden, MD
Dr. Naden is a native of Cedar Rapids, a graduate of the
University of South Dakota and the University of Iowa Medical School, and is board-certified in Radiation Therapy. After serving his internship in Michigan and residency in California, Dr. Naden practiced in Madison, Wisconsin from 1988-2005.

Yat Hong Lau, Ph.D.,MD
Dr. Lau received his Medical Doctorate from the State University of New York in Syracuse, New York. He completed his residency in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Lau recently served as Attending Radiation Oncologist with Regional Cancer Center, associated with Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, New York. Dr. Lau is board-certified in Radiation Therapy.
