The June E. Nylen Cancer Center, Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City, and St. Luke's Health System, and other regional specialists work together to offer a complete set of screening programs that focus on early detection, which is a key factor in successfully treating many kinds of cancer.
If you have any concerns at all, don't wait for a screening. Call 712-252-0088 today for information.
Screening opportunities include:
The Dermascan machine is a great tool to help you identify the damage the sun has done to your face. It is not a diagnostic tool for detecting skin cancer. When you look inside the Dermascan machine, you will be able to look at several layers of your derma—or skin—and see where potential sun damage is. A trained staff member accompanies the Dermascan to answer questions on skin cancer awareness, gives suggestions for sun damage prevention, and provide education about the dangers of exposure to the sun and artificial tanning booths. Please call the Resource Room at 712-252-9338 to schedule the Dermascan for your school or community group.
Y-Quit is an interactive tool to reinforce smoking prevention or quitting, especially in our community’s youth population. This portable piece of equipment affords immediate and graphically dramatic results. Using a hygienic, disposable mouthpiece, participants are breath-tested using the CO analyzer. Within seconds, an easy-to-read computer graph shows the impact and harmful consequences to the body. Participants receive a printout showing levels of carbon monoxide in their lungs and blood. Complementing the analyzer, Burning Money is an interactive software program that calculates financial and physical implications of smoking, both now and in the future. Please call the Resource Room at 712-252-9338 to schedule Y-Quit for your school or community group.
Community prostate screening is conducted in September. Watch our website and your community newspaper for more details.
Colorectal screening is offered every April. Please watch our website or community newspapers for more details on how to get screening kits from the Cancer Center, Mercy Medical Center, or St. Luke’s Hospital.
