FOR CML PATIENTS, SOMETIMES A NUMBER IS MORE THAN A NUMBER

Numbers sometimes take on special meanings. Most people think “September 22” when they see 9/22. But for people with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), 9/22 is a reminder of their disease – the genetic changes in chromosomes 9 and 22 cause CML. This September 22, a worldwide community of advocates is coming together to raise awareness of this blood cancer that represents 12 percent of all types of leukemia. Not only is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) supporting these efforts to increase public awareness, but we also continue to invest in programs and services to improve the quality of life for people with CML, as well as investing in research for effective cures. Many new therapies have been approved in the past 16 years, and new treatments are now undergoing clinical trials. The future holds much promise.
