Comedy Rocks Show benefits the Cancer Center
The second annual Cancer Sucks - Comedy Rocks will take place Saturday, April 20 at the Sioux City Hotel, 707 4th Street. Proceeds benefit the June E. Nylen Cancer Center."This is my way to honor the memory of my Dad, Kenneth Olson who received treatment at the Cancer Center,” said John Olson of Logan Street Productions and organizer of the event. "I'm a huge Star Wars fan, as well!"Those attending will enjoy an evening of comedy by Garie Lewis, Don Reese and Olson. Doors open at 7 p.m., allowing guests to take in the silent auction, and the comedy show starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.00 and include appetizers and the show. The Central Garrison 501st Legion will also provide entertainment.The Central Garrison is a unit of the 501st Legion, an all-volunteer, international Star Wars costuming club. The Legion was started in 1997 by a Star Wars fan in South Carolina and has since grown to over 6000 members in nearly 50 countries around the world. The Central Garrison has over 100 members and serves Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. By focusing on building screen-accurate costumes of iconic Star Wars villains like Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and Stormtroopers, the 501st Legion has earned the honor of being recognized as Lucasfilm’s preferred Imperial costuming group. Since 2010 the 501st Legion has helped raise over $30 million for charities.“The Cancer Center appreciates the efforts of Olson, Logan Street Productions, the comedians and the Central Garrison 501st Legion,” said Pat Hubbard, director of fund development. We hope lots of people turn out for this event.”The proceeds this year will be directed to cancer screening programs at the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
