While you may have a second opinion at any cancer center, we have developed a partnership with Nebraska Medicine's Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center that ensures timeliness so your treatment is not delayed. This eConsult Program is an electronic collaboration between oncologists at our cancer center and Nebraska Medicine on your treatment plan, saving you the time and cost of traveling out of town for a second appointment but solidifying your confidence in your care plan.

 What is an eConsult?

The eConsult program lets your June E. Nylen Cancer Center oncologist consult with specialists throughout Nebraska Medicine and come up with a care plan just for you.

What are the benefits of eConsults?

eConsults are an easy and efficient way of seeing a Nebraska Medicine oncologist or specialty care provider. By reviewing your medical chart, they can oftentimes give a second opinion in making a diagnosis and building a treatment plan for you without you ever needing to go to their medical office in Omaha. The technology is safe with strict patient privacy standards used for the physician eConsult.

How will you get your results?

Your Nylen Cancer Center oncologist will follow up with you about your eConsult.

What is the cost?

An eConsult is thought of as a separate medical visit and, as such, there can be a fee for this visit. Most major insurers cover the cost of eConsults (or second opinions); however, for those not covered by insurance, there will be a charge to ask for the consult and to cover the expense of the Nebraska Medicine’s specialist to review your records and give personal answers for your condition.

In some cases, Nebraska Medicine may need to get the pathology slides from your biopsy and there would be a charge for the review of the biopsy material. Again, this would be sent to your insurance, however; any amount not covered would be your responsibility.

Will I still need to see a specialist in person?

Most medical conditions can be handled by the eConsult program; however, there might be times in which the Nebraska Medicine specialist needs to see you in person. In this case, your eConsult fee will be waived and a priority visit will be scheduled for you at their Omaha office.

Ask your JENCC physician or one of our Patient Advocates about an eConsult.
