Iowa Cancer Consortium Brings Meetings to Communities, Invites Iowans to Participate in Cancer Plan Revision

The Iowa Cancer Consortium, a partnership of individuals and organizations addressing cancer in the state, will hold four regional meetings in April. The Consortium invites Iowans to attend the meetings to provide input into the revision of the Iowa Cancer Plan.   The Iowa Cancer Plan identifies priorities for reducing the burden of cancer in the state. It provides direction for cancer programs, research and policy initiatives in the areas of prevention, early detection, treatment and quality of life. The current plan – available here – runs through 2017 and is being revised for 2018 through 2022. The revised plan will include a special focus on health equity and disparities.   In addition to Iowa Cancer Plan revision activities, each meeting will include updates on regional cancer control work and Iowa Cancer Consortium business.   All Iowans are invited to participate in cancer plan feedback sessions during one of four meetings being held across the state in April: - Sioux City: April 17, UnityPoint Health - St. Luke’s, 2720 Stone Park Blvd. - Des Moines: April 21, Iowa Methodist Medical Center Education & Research Center, 1200 Pleasant St. - Clear Lake: April 25, Best Western Holiday Lodge, Emerald Room, 2023 7th Ave. North. - Cedar Rapids: April 28, Physician’s Clinic of Iowa Medical Pavilion, Community Room, 202 10th St. SE.   The meetings are free for Iowa Cancer Consortium members and $25 for non-members. Alternatively, an annual Consortium membership is $20. Scholarships are also available on request. Community members may also choose to attend only the cancer plan revision activities in the afternoon at no charge.   Complete information and registration is available at www.canceriowa.org/springmeetings.aspx.
