June E. Nylen Cancer Center Awarded Prestigious QOPI® Certification from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)
In its drive to provide the most advanced cancer care in Northwest Iowa, the June E. Nylen Cancer (JENCC) has reached another milestone — a prestigious stamp of approval by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). This voluntary certification specifically recognizes JENCC for meeting the strict standards required by the society’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) program.
“This renewed certification is a testament to the compassionate oncology care we provide and the culture of excellence the Nylen Cancer Center team lives every day,” said Krista McCullough, Executive Director at JENCC. “I’m deeply grateful to our leaders, providers, and staff, whose hard work and dedication made this possible, helping us successfully complete the rigorous QOPI evaluation for the benefit of our patients.”
JENCC first received the QOPI certification in 2022, and it must be renewed every three years. The current term is now valid until September 2028. The certification was achieved by meeting QOPI’s core standards in all areas of medical oncology cancer treatment, including:
Treatment planning
Staff training and education
Chemotherapy orders and drug preparation
Patient consent and education
Safe chemotherapy administration
Monitoring and assessment of patient well-being
“I’m extremely proud of the extraordinary commitment at the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in going above and beyond in the provision of high-quality cancer care,” added McCullough. “The JENCC doesn’t just treat cancer, we treat people and believe it’s purposeful and a privilege. We are grateful for the thousands of Siouxland patients and their families who trust their care to us. That is why we sought this voluntary certification that analyzed our data and compared it to more than 170 evidence-based quality and safety measures.”
QOPI® Certification is not the only accreditation the June E. Nylen Cancer Center has earned. Other national recognitions include:
The first cancer center in Iowa and Nebraska to receive accreditation from the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) APEx - Accreditation Program for Excellence®.
Accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for clinical excellence in imaging services including CT scan, PET scan, and low-dose CT lung screening.
Lab accreditation by the Commission on Office Laboratory Association (COLA) for the highest standards of quality in all its day-to-day operations, demonstrating continued accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing, and complying with all regulatory requirements.
